U.S. Strategy in Afghanistan
September 15
Returning to kick off the new season of this series is Professor Jim Marquardt to discuss political adversaries - and allies - of President Obama, and how they are sharply critical of the administration’s foreign policy. Neo-conservative Republicans say Obama is appeasing America’s enemies and gives tepid support to advancing American values abroad. Left-wing Democrats question Obama’s Afghanistan and climate change policies. This presentation explores the White House’s recently released national security strategy and identifies Obama as a foreign policy “liberal pragmatist.” It also underscores the tension between the president’s quest to renew America’s global leadership and the limits of American power on the early 21st century world stage.
