ANIMAL CONTROL Updated August 10, 2010

The City of Highland Park Police Department is committed to providing a variety of specialized services relative to the promotion of responsible pet ownership, animal welfare and nuisance abatement. The Department’s Community Service Officers (CSOs) and Patrol Officers all have the authority and responsibility of enforcement of city ordinances and state laws related to animal control. To view the animal code for the City of Highland Park, please click here.

The City no longer provides services for the trapping and removal of nuisance animals inside or outside of a private residence or business (unless a public safety condition exists inside a living or work area). The Community Services Animal Control Unit will continue to provide domestic animal control services and the removal of dead animals from roadways and City property.

The Police Department also maintains a secure pound facility located at 1150 Half Day Road. The facility is designed to specially care for and temporarily house all impounded domestic animals. The City has a long-term partnership with Save-A Pet (847-740-7788) to help ensure that lost, homeless and unwanted animals are given another chance to find a home through the adoption process. All unclaimed domestic animals are turned over to Save-A-Pet (a no-kill animal adoption facility).

Please be a responsible pet owner! Respect your neighbors and be sure to comply with all animal restrictions for the greater benefit of everyone in the community. To report suspected animal neglect, cruelty, or violations of ordinances, please contact Animal Control at (847) 432-7730.
